about Melissa J. Kay
I grew up on a century farm near Holstein, Iowa. I moved to Alcester, South Dakota in 2013. I received my B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of South Dakota in 2018. I then attended the University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law, where I received my J.D. in December of 2021. I spend most of my free time with my two children.
PROFESSIONAL EMPHASIS AND EXPERIENCE
My practice is general in nature with an emphasis in criminal and family law.
I am licensed to practice law in South Dakota and Nebraska. I am a member of the South Dakota Bar Association, and the Nebraska Bar Association.
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES AND INVOLVEMENT
I served on the Alcester City Council from 2018 to 2021. I volunteered with Yankton and Clay County Teen Court for several years. I still participate in various, volunteer opportunities, and particularly enjoy those involving the University of South Dakota.
